Alison Lamb
Principal

Alison is an established school leader with more than 21 years of successful headship both in the UK and internationally. Her experience of teaching and leadership spans 30 years in early years, primary and secondary departments and in a wide variety of schools including mainstream and special education; including schools for moderate learning, emotional, behavioural, and medical needs, EAL, private and state, co-educational and single gender. Since 2019 she has been committed to her role as Principal of Dubai Heights Academy and brings with her a wealth of experience in leadership in the Middle East.

Alison is also a PENTA trained British School Overseas inspector with outstanding knowledge and experience in local and international school accreditation. She has worked widely as an executive committee member and country representative for British Schools in the Middle East (BSME), mentoring new school principals and helping schools work through the requirements for achieving BSME accreditation. Since joining Dubai Heights Academy, she has led the school forward in its journey of excellence including the achievement of a good rating on its very first KHDA inspection, with several very good features.

Alison’s vision is to lead the school to greater ‘heights’ by creating and maintaining a positive and progressive environment for pupils and staff to learn and develop. Alison aims for Dubai Heights Academy to be recognised as an outstanding British School in Dubai which focuses on developing the whole child; academically, intellectually and emotionally. Rob Hitchings
Vice Principal / Head of Secondary

With 27 years of experience in both UK and international educational settings, encompassing new, evolving, and established schools, Rob Hitchings, Vice Principal at Dubai Heights Academy, brings a wealth of educational expertise. His background includes engagement with diverse school types such as for-profit, non-profit, segregated, and government institutions, where he has assumed various leadership responsibilities.

Displaying a strong enthusiasm for the intersection of education and technology, Rob is an advocate for harnessing technological tools to empower educators and students in reshaping the learning journey. His vision revolves around utilising technology to foster creativity, nurture innovation, and cultivate critical thinking.

Rob's academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) degree in Geography and Geology, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with a specialisation in Geography and 16-19 Education. His pursuit of knowledge led him to achieve a Master’s degree in Information Communications Technology and Education from Leeds University in 2011.

Kenneth Lyon

"Hailing from Aberdeen in Scotland, Kenneth Lyon is no stranger to leadership in education. He comes with extensive leadership experience in primary and whole school settings, previously a Vice Principal. Formerly Kenneth has held positions of Assistant Head, Deputy Head and Head of Primary over a period of 14 years at a leading British curriculum school in Dubai.

He has considerable experience of school improvement, particularly around academic standards and the quality of learning and teaching. He is totally committed to placing the needs of the students at the centre of all decision making. He ensures that children are offered a real breadth and depth of experiences that builds on their talents, challenges them to question the world and offers them new and exciting opportunities.

He strongly believes that schools are at the heart of a community and he is known for his collaborative leadership style, working closely with teachers, staff and parents to develop and foster positive relationships."

Aisling Keaveney
Head of Inclusion, Pastoral and Well-being

"Aisling Keaveney brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Dubai Heights Academy, having over 13 years of experience in a variety of educational settings. With a background in Special Education, Aisling specialises in Inclusion achieving a first class honours Masters in Special Education. An ambassador for promoting inclusion and wellbeing, Aisling has featured as a guest speaker at Middlesex University Dubai and also presented as a panellist speaker in the Sixth Emerging Research Paradigms in Business and Social Sciences (ERPBSS) conference 2022 titled “Today’s wellness ecosystem: Professional perspectives on initiatives from inception to implementation”.

Aisling believes in personalising the curriculum and learning experience of every student to ensure every child, every mind and everybody has the opportunity for success at Dubai Heights Academy. "Terrie Spencer is a passionate and dedicated teacher from England with experience teaching in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2. After completing her BA (Hons) QTS at Leeds University, she returned to her native Manchester to begin her teaching career. This is where she developed her passion for working with students of determination. She has vast experience of working with pupils in a variety of settings in both England and the UAE, including mainstream schools, specialist schools for students of determination and a pupil referral unit.

Terrie is the eternal student, committed to ongoing professional development. She holds a Master of Education in Special Education Needs with distinction and is a qualified neuro-developmental therapist (INPP method). Furthermore, she is a member of professional bodies including, The British Psychological Society and the Institute of Neuro-Physiological Psychology. In her quest to support and challenge the students in her care, she has studied ABA therapy, Gifted and Talented identification and provision and school mental health improvement.

Terrie is currently the Deputy Head of Inclusion at DHA. She is particularly passionate about school readiness, early intervention and the role of movement in learning."

Pamela Snell

"Pamela Snell is a passionate and dedicated Early Years teacher from The UK with 12 years’ experience teaching in Early Years. She received a BSc (Hons) from the University of Ulster and an MA Early Childhood Education from the University of Roehampton, London and following this, gained EYTS from the Department of Education in the UK and further gained Cache level 3 in Early childhood development.

The past nine years she has gained experience teaching across the UAE (Dubai, Fujairah and Abu Dhabi) and has experience teaching throughout the UK and Northern Ireland. Pamela is dedicated to encouraging each child to develop their personal and academic progress and instilling that dedication and desire to learn. She aims to create a positive and engaging learning environment for all children to grow and develop a true love for learning. It is her aim to teach engaging and challenging lessons to motivate and develop children of all abilities."

Hayley Shaw is an enthusiastic and committed teacher who has lived in Dubai for 26 years. After completing her formative years of schooling in Dubai, she studied in England and graduated from university with a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education. This year will be Hayley's eleventh year teaching across the Early Years and Key Stage One. Learning is a lifelong skill that Hayley is passionate about embedding in her classroom environment and using adaptive teaching strategies that support each and every child. Being part of Dubai Heights Academy since the school’s opening, Hayley has enjoyed organising exciting school trips, events such as Science Week and helping out with the PTA. She is looking forward to the exciting year ahead at Dubai Heights Academy.

Tara King

"Tara King (formerly known as Miss Furness!) is an enthusiastic and highly motivated English Studies graduate with a teaching qualification in Early Years/Primary Education. She has been teaching in the UAE for eight years, six of which she has spent teaching in Foundation Stage. This experience has helped shape and refine her attitude to teaching and learning.

Tara firmly believes that each and every child should be provided and accommodated for through various individual and progressive teaching styles and strategies. "Mary is a dedicated primary school teacher originally from Ireland who has been living in Dubai since 2001. She completed her PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) in Dubai and has been teaching in various schools in the city since then. She is truly grateful for the incredible teaching opportunities she has had and for the chance to explore different parts of the world.

One of Mary's greatest passions is promoting a love for reading among her students. She also believes in challenging and expanding her students' thinking abilities, fostering their creativity, and encouraging them to be inquisitive learners throughout their educational journey. Mary also places a strong emphasis on connecting classroom learning to real-life experiences and the local culture of the UAE, providing her students with a well-rounded education.

Outside of her teaching duties, Mary is a busy parent, spending quality time with her son at the pool, beach, or cheering him on from the sidelines during his football matches. When she's not focused on her son or teaching, Mary indulges in another passion: shopping, and she can often be found wandering through the malls of Dubai."

Paul King
Head of Physical Education

"Paul King has a wonderful passion for sport and physical activity and the benefits it can bring to individuals and society. It is for these reasons he pursued a career in PE through completing a Sport and Exercise Science degree followed by a PGCE in Physical Education. He is currently completing a masters in business administration with educational leadership.

Paul is into his tenth year of teaching, nine of which have been in the UAE. He is also a founding staff member of DHA. His currently roles include Head of PE and Swimming, Head of House, and is heavily involved with the health and safety team.

His teaching philosophy is simple – that school PE and sport should accommodate and cater for children of all ages and abilities, while at the same time, encourage competitiveness, independence and resilience. Indeed, he believes that PE and sport participation should play a vital role in every young person’s life as it acts as the ideal foundation to access and gain essential life skills necessary for success in today's (and tomorrow's) modern, fast-changing world where young people can grow, achieve and ultimately become positive contributors to society.

Paul is a keen sportsman outside of work. His main sports include football, Gaelic football, golf, padel and swimming. He represents several sports teams and organisations across Dubai and the UAE. He is currently involved with the Dubai Irish FC men's football teams. His notable achievements include winning U17 international caps, attending Boston University on an athletic scholarship, and working closely with the inter-school sports organisation, DASSA, to organise the primary boys football schedule."

Kira Haughian

"Hayley Burrows is a highly dedicated educator from the UK, with extensive experience. Holding a BA (Hons) in Sociology and Psychology and a PGCE in Primary Education from University College Northampton, her career has encompassed diverse roles. With 9 years in UAE education and 4 years at DHA, she excels in roles ranging across all year levels and serves as the Computing teacher for KS1 to KS3. Hayley's active contribution to our collaboration with MIT enriches AI comprehension in KS3.

Passionate about coding's integration across all years, along with developing digital literacy, she enhances our Computing curriculum. As Designated Safeguarding Lead, she ensures student and staff safety, providing vital support. Hayley nurtures student leadership through successful Student Council development, fostering school initiatives and community events. This year, she aims to strengthen student leadership and drive sustainability.

Beyond education, Hayley cherishes rescuing two cats, enjoys crime dramas for critical thinking, and expresses creativity through drawing and painting. She also enjoys listening to a wide range of music and attending live music events and festivals. Ahmed believes that all students deserve an outstanding education and an opportunity to thrive. He has always held a passion for mathematics and after training as a teacher, he tries to instil this passion into all the students he teaches. Kholod Alahmar
Islamic Studies Curriculum Leader

"Kholod Alahmar is the Islamic Lead at Dubai Heights Academy and has worked in education for over 12 years across the UAE and Syria, bringing a rich Islamic curriculum school experience to her role both in Primary and Secondary stages. She holds two bachelors; one in English Literature, while the other one is in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Damascus University in Syria, along with a diploma in Professional Teaching from Ajman University. Kholod is working now on her National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership from UK; NPQSL.

Kholod was born in Dubai, living her whole life in this gorgeous country, and she believes that every pupil should take his full opportunity in learning, That’s why she focuses in her Islamic teachings on all the modern strategies and initiatives that support in making the Islamic Studies one of the students’ favorite subjects. This all makes her so passionate to deliver her teaching experiences, and to bring the students up to her teaching philosophy; “Everyone can do it!""

Kholod's favourite hobbies are swimming, reading and exploring the world by traveling to new places. She is a mother of two little kids, which makes her so busy during the day. When she has some free time, she grabs a new book, and enjoys reading with some snacks."

"Emtesal Abdou is a passionate and dedicated Arabic teacher who holds a diploma in Arabic education. She has extensive experience teaching the Arabic language to Arabs and non-Arabs at all levels. She has been an Arabic teacher in Dubai for over 23 years and has been at DHA for the last 5 years. Emtesal describes herself as an outstanding teacher who aims to deliver interesting and engaging lessons to pupils of all abilities.

Abeer is thrilled to be a part of the incredible team at DHA. Teaching is her passion and she absolutely love working with young minds and helping them discover their potential. With over 14 years of experience in teaching, she has developed a deep understanding of child development and effective teaching strategies.

Her goal is to create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and supported. She believes in making learning fun and engaging, incorporating hands-on activities, interactive games, and technology to enhance the learning experience. She strives to create a classroom community that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she is also actively involved in extracurricular activities, such as organizing Arabic for Parents sessions. She is excited to collaborate with parents and guardians to ensure the success of each student as she believes that open communication and partnership are essential in creating a positive and effective learning environment. "Rufaida Alkharabsheh is a dedicated educator with a strong enthusiasm for teaching Islamic studies. She received her BA in Islamic Studies from Al Yarmouk University in Jordan in 2010, and she offers a unique blend of knowledge and experience to her position. Over the past seven years, she has effectively taught Islamic studies across diverse settings, ranging from Jordan to the United Arab Emirates. Rufaida is skilled at creating an interesting and nurturing learning environment in addition to her instructional ability.

With an unwavering dedication to her profession, she strives to create a thorough awareness of Islamic beliefs in her pupils. Her approach is centered around fostering connections between these values and their practical application in everyday life inline with the United Arab Emirates Islamic Studies curriculum. "Sumaia Shatnawi comes from Jordan and has a Diploma in Global Teaching Practice from Liverpool Hope University in the UK. She has 12 years of experience teaching Arabic B to primary and secondary students in Dubai schools. Sumaia is committed to helping students develop their critical thinking skills and is known for her ability to inspire them to love reading and writing.

She is also an advocate for social justice and uses her classroom as a platform to promote diversity and inclusion. She is very fond of walking on the beach, traveling, drawing and reading. "Rabab Housino is an EYFS and Primary Arabic B teacher with a Bachelors in Education from Damascus University who has been teaching Arabic in Dubai for 10 years. She ensures that her lessons are creative, engaging, fun and challenging.

She believes that utilising technology for learning is vital for 21st century learners and tries to incorporate innovation and technology in all of her classes. Rabab considers herself to be a lifelong learner and hopes to instil the love of the Arabic language in her students."

"Riham Salameh has a Bachelor’s of Education in Arabic from the University of Bethlehem and will be joining us as an Arabic B teacher for Secondary. She has 17 years of experience, including 11 years in the UAE, where she has been teaching all the way from Year 2 to Year 13.

Her previous experiences as Deputy Head of Arabic and Team Leader has given her a clear understanding of the Arabic teaching curriculum and the needs of students in each age group. With a background in Special Education, Aisling specialises in Inclusion achieving a first class honours Masters in Special Education. An ambassador for promoting inclusion and wellbeing, Aisling has featured as a guest speaker at Middlesex University Dubai and also presented as a panellist speaker in the Sixth Emerging Research Paradigms in Business and Social Sciences (ERPBSS) conference 2022 titled “Today’s wellness ecosystem: Professional perspectives on initiatives from inception to implementation”.

Aisling believes in personalising the curriculum and learning experience of every student to ensure every child, every mind and everybody has the opportunity for success at Dubai Heights Academy. Aisling places a huge emphasis on creating a culture that celebrates diversity, promotes well-being and nurtures individuality and creativity."

Terrie Spencer

"Terrie Spencer is a passionate and dedicated teacher from England with experience teaching in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2. After completing her BA (Hons) QTS at Leeds University, she returned to her native Manchester to begin her teaching career. This is where she developed her passion for working with students of determination. She has vast experience of working with pupils in a variety of settings in both England and the UAE, including mainstream schools, specialist schools for students of determination and a pupil referral unit.

Terrie is the eternal student, committed to ongoing professional development. She holds a Master of Education in Special Education Needs with distinction and is a qualified neuro-developmental therapist (INPP method). Furthermore, she is a member of professional bodies including, The British Psychological Society and the Institute of Neuro- Physiological Psychology. In her quest to support and challenge the students in her care, she has studied ABA therapy, Gifted and Talented identification and provision and school mental health improvement.

Terrie is currently the Deputy Head of Inclusion at DHA. She is particularly passionate about school readiness, early intervention and the role of movement in learning."

Elaine Irvine

"Elaine Irvine is now in her fourth year at Dubai Heights Academy as an Inclusion teacher. She is mainly based in Secondary, teaching English and maths. Elaine has 17 years of teaching experience across the UK and Dubai. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in the Study of Education, PGCE and the National Award for SEND Coordination.

Elaine is passionate about challenging her students to reach their full potential in a supportive and engaging learning environment. She recognises that one path does not fit all and actively strives to accommodate all learning styles through a range of pedagogical approaches.

Elaine has three boys who all attend Dubai Heights Academy. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cycling and family days out across Dubai."

"Sarah Marnell is an enthusiastic and dedicated special needs educator with 8 years of experience as an inclusion teacher. In her current role, she collaborates with a wide range of professionals including area specialists and occupational therapists to create an inclusive, supportive setting for all students. She is also adept at providing academic support for students in core subjects to enable and encourage them to develop appropriate organisational and academic skills. She believes in a data-inspired approach to supporting students, using data to inform teaching approaches and expectations.

She has a deep understanding of fostering supportive and inclusive learning environments, identifying main areas for growth, and providing differentiated and personalised learning activities. Hayley Burrows
Social Responsibility (including safeguarding) and Innovation Lead

"Hayley Burrows is a highly dedicated educator from the UK, with extensive experience. Holding a BA (Hons) in Sociology and Psychology and a PGCE in Primary Education from University College Northampton, her career has encompassed diverse roles. With 9 years in UAE education and 4 years at DHA, she excels in roles ranging across all year levels and serves as the Computing teacher for KS1 to KS3. Hayley's active contribution to our collaboration with MIT enriches AI comprehension in KS3.

Passionate about coding's integration across all years, along with developing digital literacy, she enhances our Computing curriculum. As Designated Safeguarding Lead, she ensures student and staff safety, providing vital support. Hayley nurtures student leadership through successful Student Council development, fostering school initiatives and community events. This year, she aims to strengthen student leadership and drive sustainability.

Beyond education, Hayley cherishes rescuing two cats, enjoys crime dramas for critical thinking, and expresses creativity through drawing and painting. She also enjoys listening to a wide range of music and attending live music events and festivals. She thrives on engaging students with innovative, adaptable computing projects that cater to various skill levels."

Arushi Bhatia
School Counsellor

"Arushi Bhatia joins us at Dubai Heights Academy as our new School Counsellor. Originally from India, she earned her master's degree in Psychology and brings with her over 7 years of industry experience in the field of counselling and child & adolescent mental health. She has been an integral member of several school communities and has contributed significantly in creating school-based intervention programmes. Her passion for counselling extends beyond children and she has led several staff training workshops and parent support groups in her previous roles.

Outside of work, she loves experimenting with cooking different world cuisines and absolutely enjoys retail therapy. She is beyond thrilled to be associated with the DHA community and is looking forward to spreading her light and laughter with everyone."
